Over the past 48 hours, nearly 3500 e-mails that were sent in late October or early November have magically appeared in my Gmail Spam folder. Some of the e-mails were legitimate, so Gmail is quietly delivering real e-mails a month late. Other users are having the same problem. Are you?

I’m still waiting for an update from Google explaining what went wrong. An e-mail application can have all the space and ajax in the world, but if it’s not reliable, it’s worthless.

I found gmail became very, very slow.
Probably my corporate firewall is bloking some part of the pages (very long url ? escape sequence ?).

At home, it’s better, but don’t like it.
I need to delete mails, classifying in folders, etc… just like in Thunderbird, or in Zimbra.

I got “only” 350 and luckily all spam.

  3. /prancer Says:

so you DID email me but gmail didnt give it to me because it hiccupped?

it’s ok… it’s not like i have any important emails that gmail is withholding from me…

  4. db48x Says:

Ouch. I bet people with a more pedestrian volume of email wouldn’t even notice, since the numbers would be a lot smaller.

  5. Anon Says:

I remember this happening last year too. Right before election day. Now why would that be?

  6. Chris Scott Says:

Not just you. From a thread on the SPAM-L list last month: Gmail Spam folder goes from 0 to 200 in minutes

  7. Kelly Jones Says:

I saw the same thing. Most was spam, but I had at least legit email from the day before the election.

  8. Robb Bobertson Says:

you’ve all gotta understand, technology has not yet perfected the methods used to send data Glectronically yet, and until it does, and Gmail you sent may have some problems.

  9. Mr Lizard Says:

    Beta.

  10. Blake Ross Says:

Beta or not, Google should be courteous enough to explain what went wrong.

  11. Jerry Says:

Funny you had this happen right now, I’ve had gmail for more than a year and no spam. In the last 2 weeks, my spam folder is filling up. I’ve never used my email on any public sites, to order anything etc. Very strange. PS - How are you doing Cousin? Just saw your Mom & Dad here in Miami. - Jerry

  12. Mr Lizard Says:

    Blake,

Fair point, I agree Google’s Gmail dept could offer an explanation.

Unless their staff are also in beta, and that capability has yet to be added ;-)

  13. Patrick Says:

    Hi there,

I can report the same thing. My Spam folder increaed about 3000 spams in the last 24hrs. The oldest spam is from Oct 23.

    Greetings

Francois, You can delete email from Inbox in Gmail. Just hit “Archive” button or “Delete” if You are worried about the volume of emails in All Mail. You can also classify emails by adding stars and labels and create filters for incoming mail.

I have been facing a similar thing where all emails I send go to spam folders of the recipient lately….strange. Maybe people don’t like me;P

  16. sandeep Says:

good i dint use it for my job search. always thought id wait till its out of beta..

  17. BillyG Says:

Whatever you do, don’t go with Y! I never receive msgs I send myself all time (does that make sense? lol)

  18. Srid Says:

isn’t this true? yes it is. After I read this, I realized that I am a victim too. I was cursing that garage opener installer for not sending the invoice on time and here it , I went and checked the spam folder, it was there.
So true: no matter what all makeup you have, if there is no mind to it there is no beauty.
