Google has removed the tips feature. Perhaps it was always intended as a test; I don’t know the official reason for its removal. In any case, thanks to Matt Cutts and other Googlers who listened and responded to feedback with an open mind, and over the holidays no less.

I’m still seeing tips Blake…Calendar and blog both show their tips.

  2. Krishna Says:

I searched for blog and lo and behold I see -

Tip: Want to share your life online with a blog? Try Blogger

Dont know which one of us is jumping the gun…

  3. Blake Ross Says:

It might take some time to propagate, as with most of the changes Google makes. Matt commented on their removal, so I don’t think it’s just a fluke on my end.

  4. Michael.NET Says:

Ah good then :) Might want to update the post with that link…

  5. Paul Irish Says:

Thanks for getting that snowball rolling, Blake. Good work.

  6. dade Says:

    Good.
Searched for Yahoo Calendar and the results came out, free of Google telling me to try Google Calender instead.
This is a nice development and it shows that Google listens…

  7. Matt Cutts Says:

There’s a binary push going on that and the tips are removed in that binary push. It will take a few days before the binary makes it out to every data center. Blake, thanks for your feedback on this issue.

  8. CS Says:

Awesome! Thanks for publicizing the tip issue!

  9. Josh Says:

Gone for me :) I guess you more influence that you think.

I don’t see the point here. Many of us are making a lot of money every year thanks to Google and nobody seems to acknowledge that it’s a private corporation and not a non-profit organization. What if they suggest (I’d say I never realized they were doing it….I’m picking up the best results, according to myself, that Googles offers) a site or product as a “compensation” for all the money they give us ?? I’m an argentine consultant working from home in Argentina (far from developed countries and also from the markets I attend to.

Very interesting, Ross I believe that you too had a lot of influence on Google to remove the tips.

Again Google gets positive karma points from me, for really paying attention.

One small config setting for a coder… one giant leap for user kind.

  16. Richard Seese Says:

Blake, your sound advice was the blog heard around the world, which made headline news on a lot of on-line news sources. Of course Google removed the tips… Perhaps the evil inside has subsided for now! Here is a GOOD tip for you: Keep up the good work! Keeping companies at bay, especially those with the motto “Do no evil”. I still say that my idea on providing a small little section of “Google related services” would be appropriate for their justification of showing their services.

  17. VCMike Says:

Great to see a well reasoned post having impact…That’s the way it is supposed to work, right?

  18. Alex Becker Says:

They did not bother me, but removing them was the right thing to do

  19. Andrew Lai Says:

Hmmm… Google is putting their links up again, but this time they are not in picture-form; they are in sponsor links. Does it contradict to Google’s no-do-evil policy?

Search up “blog”, “calender”, or “mail” etc.

  20. deepak Says:

yes..they hav removed tips for blogs..BUT for calendar n desktop -> it is still there…

  21. roberg Says:

I tried searching for ’search’ on Google, and there were no tips, but it came up with MSN search as the first result. :)

  22. Rohit Malik Says:

tips are turned into ’sponsored links’ it seems.

    They are still there.
They just don’t call them “tips’. Just links at the top the organics to Google yellow page service - Google Local
